SR · Stress relieving
A soak below the transformation range, then a slow cool. Machining, welding and straightening stresses relax without a meaningful change in hardness or structure.

What it does
Relax the part before it moves on its own.
Residual stress from heavy machining or welding can release later, during hardening or in service, and the part moves. Stress relieving releases it first, under control.
- Specify it between rough and finish machining on long or asymmetric parts, and after welding.
- Tell us the grade, prior condition and any hardness that must not change.
- We set the cycle to the grade and prior condition, and confirm it against your drawing before quoting.

Questions
Asked about stress relieving.
Will stress relieving soften my part?
On annealed or normalised stock, not meaningfully. On hardened parts the soak must stay below the last temper temperature. Tell us the prior condition.
